As a mom of a freshman in high school, I always think about what the 26 first graders (and their parents) from Sandy Hook Elementary should be experiencing right now with all the excitement I'm feeling as my daughter enters high school and finds her way as an adolescent. My daughter was also 6 years old when I sent her off to her first-grade classroom on December 14th, 2012, not a thought in the world that she might not return home that day. She did, return home, I was lucky, most of us are lucky, our kids get through their school years relatively incident-free, but the ones who don't? Oh, the ones who don't, I think about them every day. The absolute terror and horror they lived or didn't live through. And the ones that do survive? What they will have to carry forward in life is almost unimaginable.
I painstakingly created this shirt combing through so many mass shootings experienced in the US. Some I had heard of and many that probably barely made the news as they weren't quite horrific enough. The bottom line is any life lost due to senseless gun violence is horrific. The most preventable tragedy around. It could be any one of us anytime. We can all agree on one thing, innocent lives need protecting. Common sense gun laws just work. I will wear this shirt around proudly supporting and remembering those who did not lose their lives in vain. Change will happen. $5 from the sale of each shirt will be donated to an organization working to reform gun control.
